Syrian rights lawyer Razan Zaitouneh abducted in Douma

On 9 December 2013 the prominent human-rights lawyer Razan Zaitouneh — co-founder of the Violations Documentation Center, who chronicled abuses by both the Assad regime and armed groups — was abducted with three colleagues (the "Douma Four") from her office in opposition-held Douma, most likely by the Islamist faction Jaysh al-Islam. Their fate remains unknown, a reminder that repression of activists in Syria came from the opposition's armed groups as well as the state.
