Menfi becomes head of Libya's Presidential Council

Selected at the UN-backed Libyan Political Dialogue Forum on 5 February 2021, Mohamed al-Menfi — a former ambassador to Greece from the east — took office on 15 March 2021 as chairman of the three-member Presidential Council, which performs the head-of-state functions of the interim Government of National Unity (approved 121–11 by the House of Representatives) alongside PM Dbeibah.
