ESDP joins the Egyptian Bloc to counter the Islamists in 2011–12

The ESDP co-founded the secular Egyptian Bloc alliance for the 2011–12 parliamentary election (begun 28 November 2011), emerging as one of its largest components and a leading liberal voice in the short-lived post-revolution assembly before it was dissolved by court order in 2012. Several party figures later served in post-2013 governments.
