King Faisal wields the oil weapon in the 1973 embargo

During the October 1973 Arab–Israeli war, King Faisal led Saudi Arabia and OPEC's Arab members in an oil embargo (from 17 October 1973) against the United States and other backers of Israel, cutting production and quadrupling world oil prices. The "oil weapon" demonstrated newfound Arab economic leverage, triggered a global energy crisis, and vastly enriched and empowered the Gulf monarchies.
