Sadr's Sairoon alliance wins the most seats in Iraq's 2018 election

In the 12 May 2018 parliamentary election, Muqtada al-Sadr's cross-ideological Sairoon ("On the Move") alliance — pairing the Sadrist movement with the Iraqi Communist Party and secular activists on an anti-corruption, anti-Iran, Iraqi-nationalist platform — finished first with 54 of 329 seats. Sadr, who did not run himself, became the chief kingmaker in forming the Adel Abdul-Mahdi government.
