As articulated by its Secretary-General, PIJ occupies the REJECTIONIST-ISLAMIST / "RESISTANCE" pole of Palestinian politics: it categorically rejects the Oslo framework and any negotiated "settlement" (taswiya) with Israel — "anyone who proposes a settlement with the occupation and believes it is possible does not understand the nature of the Zionist project" — holding that settlement projects "amount to free concessions to an enemy that does not even recognise us." It frames itself as ideologically opposed to Fatah/the PLO (who pursue settlement), as sharing the "resistance" program with Hamas, and as an independent faction that nonetheless receives support from Iran.
