The attacks on October 7 were barbaric. I unequivocally condemn the air campaign that resulted in the death of over 11,000 people in Gaza, 4,700 of which are children.

No real security will ever be realized until a real two-state solution is found. So, preserving this path to peace, will demand strong leadership—from us in the region and primarily from the great powers, and specifically from the United States. We believe that the United States is indispensable.

[Source is English (Newsweek), reporting his remarks at the Manama Dialogue; confirmed verbatim.] Declared positions of Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa — Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain (the kingdom's leading reform-minded figure). From remarks at the Manama Dialogue security summit (~17 November 2023), amid the Gaza war. Bahrain is a 2020 Abraham Accords signatory (it normalized relations with Israel), yet the Crown Prince stakes out an EVEN-HANDED establishment position: condemning BOTH Hamas's 7 October attack ("barbaric"; he also said "I condemn Hamas, unequivocally") AND Israel's Gaza air campaign ("I unequivocally condemn the air campaign that resulted in the death of over 11,000 people in Gaza, 4,700 of which are children"), insisting that "no real security will ever be realized until a real two-state solution is found," and casting the United States as "indispensable" to peace. This is the post-normalization Gulf-establishment pole — a kingdom that has normalized with Israel but still conditions durable peace on a Palestinian state and openly criticizes Israel's conduct — distinct from the UAE's Iran-focused framing (Gargash), from the resistance camp's rejectionism, and from Bahrain's own domestic opposition (Ali Salman) and rights activists (al-Khawaja). [Axes: palestinian-question (two-state as precondition for security; even-handed; pro-Palestinian rights despite normalization), normalization (normalized via Abraham Accords, but conditional / critical of Israel's conduct), west-alignment (US "indispensable"; pro-US-mediation), regime-stance (reformist Gulf-monarchy establishment).]
