A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas-led Palestinian factions in Gaza took effect on 19 January 2025, structured in three 42-day phases and mediated by the United States, Egypt, and Qatar. In the first phase Hamas was to release 33 Israeli hostages while Israel released roughly 1,900 Palestinian prisoners, allowed a surge of aid into Gaza, and began a phased withdrawal from parts of the territory. Israel's cabinet approved the agreement on 17 January 2025. How to cite this document
